IELTS SPEAKING PART 1

1. What is your favorite colour?

I would say I love black color. This is because it can match everything, so I don’t have to worry about finding a piece of clothes that goes along with a black item. Besides, I prefer minimal style with small patterns and something that’s not too vibrant, and black suits me the best.

  • goes along with: hợp với, hài hoà với

2. What is the colour that you dislike?

White is definitely not my cup of tea. It’s mainly because this color easily gets dirty. In addition, wearing white colors on a regular basis requires good care by the owner since they will fade and stain over time. To be honest, I haven’t been able to keep any white shirts for over a year.

  • not my cup of tea: không phải sở thích của tôi
  • easily gets dirty: dễ bẩn
  • requires good care: đòi hỏi chăm sóc kỹ
  • fade and stain: bị phai và ố

3. What colors do you want to paint your house with?

If I could buy a new accommodation and had a chance to decorate it myself, I would paint the interiors with light green. Among other colors, I believe that green is easy on the eye. Imagine coming back home after a long working day, all we want is something that can refresh our mind and comfort us, and green is not a bad choice.

  • easy on the eye: dễ nhìn

4. What colour makes you feel uncomfortable in your room?

Unlike the majority of people, I can’t go with the color red in my room. It’s going to make my room look darker and palemost of my interior furniture. Besides, red is normally related to scary symbols such as blood or demons. As a person who is afraid of darkness, I can’t deal with this dull atmosphere. I would cope with nightmares every night for sure.

  • interior furniture: nội thất
  • nightmares: ác mộng

5. Do you usually wear clothes in your favorite color?

Surprisingly, I don’t. Even though I’m a huge fan of green color, I don’t often wear it when I go out. It’s primarily because it would be too much if I put all the green on my body. Meanwhile, I prefer to portrait an image of being professional and mature when I’m in public. Besides, I don’t think this color flatters my skin tone.

  • I’m a huge fan of: người hâm mộ lớn của
  • portrait an image: khắc hoạ một hình ảnh
  • professional and mature: chuyên nghiệp và chính chắn
  • flatters my skin tone: tôn da

6. Are colours important to you?

To me personally, colours are indeed important. Not only can colours make our life more vivid, they can also indicate feelings. For instance, I often wear yellow clothing when my mood is up, but go for black if I am feeling down.

Ex2: Yes, I think that colours play a vital role in clothes since that is how we appear to other people. Sometimes the colors of your outfits express your feelings. For example, when I’m not in a good mood, I will choose a black outfit. It will be dull if a person wears the same colours daily.

7. Were colours important to you when you were a child?

They were definitely more important to me than they are now. When I was small, I used to judge objects by their colour, like pink stuff was for girls, while blue things were for boys. As I grew up, I realized that things are a lot more complicated, and that colours don’t matter that much.

8. Are there any colours that have a special meaning in your country?

In my country, almost all colours are associated with something. Take red as an example, red symbolizes happy events, like victories or weddings. In contrast, black is seen as the colour of death, which explains why Vietnamese people often wear black clothes to funerals.

9. Do you think different types of people like different colours?

In my view, a person’s favourite colour does not necessarily reflect his or her personality. In fact, it really is up to one’s own preference, so we should not make any assumptions just through people’s choice of colour.

10. Should course books be colourful?

Absolutely. I believe that course books should be lively. Using illustrations helps in learning and may be more effective than just describing something. For example, kids are usually fond of books with colourful pictures rather than those with only words. If coursebooks include colourful contents, they are more likely to sell faster than others.
