1. Do you like flowers? (Why?)
Answer: Yes, I do like flowers. As an introvert, sometimes, I find myself feeling peaceful and relaxed while enjoying nice flowers in my garden. I have a habit of taking pictures of flowers after the rain. I feel most at peace spending chunks of good time on my own, in relative silence, contemplating the beauty of flowers with raindrops through my camera lens.
2. Which/What is your favorite flower?
Answer: White roses are truly my favorite flower. They are traditionally associated with marriages and new beginnings. However, their beauty has also made them a gesture of remembrance. Therefore, a bouquet of white rose is a perfect way to say “I’m thinking of you”.
3. Do you think flowers are important?
Answer: Yes, they are important. Because two reason.
Firstly, Flowers bring vivid colors to the world, especially when it comes to fashion, decoration and presents on special occasions.
Secondly, flowers contribute to the economic growth both domestically and internationally. For example, flower has bought a huge benefit to the economy of Sadec City ( a city of of flower in Vietnam country).
4. Are flowers important in your culture? (Give examples)
Answer: Definitely. With beautiful meanings, some flowers are chosen to show people’s key virtues. Lotus flowers, for example, have been regarded as the national flower. The lotus plants grow from the marsh but their leaves and flowers grow toward the direction of the sunlight, which symbolizes the purity and faithfulness of people’s spirits.
5. Do people in your country ever use flowers for special occasions?
Answer: Flowers are widely used in many occasions and festivals in our country to represent for a blessing, happiness and good luck. Most families have at least one kind of plants or flowers at home.
6. What are the occasions when people give or receive flowers?
Answer: If you have no ideas what gifts to give others on their special days, then a beautiful bouquet of flowers can save you life. Why? Gifts, or flowers have been an essential part of any parties, especially birthday, wedding and graduation day. Flowers are given as congratulation gifts and enlighten the atmosphere of the party. And also, imagine a Valentine’s day without flowers? Then where is love and romance?
7. In your country, do people (ever) give flowers as a gift?
Answer: Yes, they do. As mention above, flowers play an essential role in different occasions as a special gift for people to show love to one another. People, especially girls, are happy and pleased when they receive their favorite flowers from beloved ones on their birthday.
8. When was the last time you gave flowers to someone?
Answer: It was a couple of weeks ago when I bought a bouquet of flowers as a present for my mom. She was deliriously happy when receiving it and put in in the sitting room so that everyone in my family can admire its beauty too.
9. What kinds of flowers do you know?
To be honest I’m not an anthophile so I don’t know much about flowers. If I have to name a few types, the first that springs to my mind would be rose. You know rose is one of the most popular flowers there is. People regard rose as a symbol of love. That’s why they buy this flower on Valentine’s day and give it to the person they have a feeling for. Besides, there are daisy, lily, lotus and a bunch of others, each embodying different qualities and meanings which I’m clueless about, sadly.
10. Are there any flowers that have special meanings in Vietnam?
According to my very limited knowledge about flora, lotus is the flower representing our country Vietnam because of its divine and elegant beauty. The lotus is often cited in Vietnamese folk songs and poems as an exquisite flower symbolizing purity, commitment and optimism of the future because it is the flower that grows in muddy water but rises above the surface to gorgeously bloom. For this reason, the lotus is voted as our national flower and it is undoubtedly endorsed by the majority of Vietnamese people.
11. Have you planted any flowers?
As confessed I’m not into flowers. I just don’t find them gorgeous like my mom and sister so anything that has to do with flowers is simply not my thing, whether it be buying flowers or planting ones. But I would say if I have some time to spare in the near future, I will do it. I believe the process of growing a plant could be therapeutic as you watch a seed germinates and gradually blooms, becoming a beautiful fully grown organism.
12. Have you sent flowers to anyone?
People give flowers to others on different occasions as a present, but I usually opt for more practical options, money, for example. You know flowers are generally ephemeral and are used for decorating purposes only, which I deem a waste of money. I once sent a bouquet of imitation flowers to my friends on their wedding anniversary instead and we both actually love that idea. Imitation flowers are more long-lasting and beautiful, just like my friend’s marriage.
